There was some drama at Atascadero Lake yesterday. I had seen reports of a Bald Eagle hunting there and I decided to check it out. Together with some other photo friends we watched and waited for the Eagle to hunt. We had to be patient, but after about 1 1/2 hours after I arrived he finally swooped down and plucked a Coot from the lake. He took it up to a nearby tree, but was soon chased off by a group of Blackbirds. What a morning!!!

Back in 2022 I spent some amazing time observing and photographing a Great Horned Owl family. One of the highlights of that time happened when a parent brought in a vole to feed her hungry almost grown chicks.

I think our local Burrowing Owl looks a tad out of sorts with all the attention she is getting. It looks like she has evidence of a recent meal on her beak.

Last night there was a rocket launch from Vandenberg SFB at 7:53pm. I had pre-planned this location and set up well ahead of time. Using my Sony a1 and Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 lens I took a sequence of 38 shots to capture the event. Each shot was 10 sec., f/4, 1600 ISO. I layered all the shots in Photoshop and changed the blend mode on each one to Lighten. Like magic the whole scene revealed itself!
