World Tour 2013 - 2014 - day 318

Mont Kenya is the second highest peak in Africa. Some snow could be observed on the top. The girl on the picture, looking at Mount Kenya, helped me to find a Maasai who could help me to go through the bush. She dressed herself with the traditional Maasai cotton sheets (Shúkà in Maasai language) with different colors (also worn by Samburu people). I saw pink ones on different men. A great variety of different colors were used. Maasai people have been making clothes with cotton only since 1960's.

Circumstances:
Despite my will to travel across the earth on-land, I entered Kenya by plane from Ethiopia because some truck attacks had just been mentioned close to the northern Kenya border, a few days before. Thus I started my land cruise from Mont Kenya, in the middle of the country, to south Kenya. My goal was to reach non-visited areas close to Tanzania border from where I could explore the bush looking for Maasai villages.

World Tour 2013 - 2014 - day 319

There is no window on the Maasai hut (called 'Inkajijik'), so the inside is pretty dark and the air keeps fresh. Usually some sheeps are kept in separate room but this one could sit in the main room since it was a baby. Some little openings on the hut wall could let this kind of solar ray pass through the darkness and lighten some life situation.

Circumstances:
I reached a small city in south of Nairobi and intended to explore the bush, walking on my own. Eventually a local friend from Nairobi warned me of the risk of getting lost since Maasai villages (called 'Manyatta') are pretty hidden from vegetation. Thus I was introduced to a Maasai guy who took me by motorbike to his village, afar in the bush. I spent there a few days before leaving for Tanzania.

Here is Teko, the Maasai man who helped me to explore the bush in South Kenya.
