't Is a jolly frame, a reproduction with all the wear and tear of time but that doesn't matter. A double deck horse tramway car and reminding the song: Bruxelles (Brussels) of the Belgium singsong writer Jaques Brel ... A horse tramway moved slowly along old facades, on the tram roof two people sitting side by side. He my late grandfather, she my late grandmother, both were thinking of nothing so don't aspect anything from me. A rough translation from the Dutch version of this song (original in French). This by all means is Germany and I like it although the roof top is man's business only. Historisches Stadtbild Nº H34 - collection Eickemeyer - Berlin.

A peculiar happening more than sixty years ago ore more precise July 21st 1950.
The famous circus ‘Althof’ pitched their tents in the city. Someone had the brilliant idea to transport one of their baby elephants named Tüffi (1946-1989) in the existing monorail called: ‘Schwebebahn’ as a way of promotion and advertisement. However, the beast was far from amused and became very nerves of the wobbly ride, ran up and down the coach, eventually broke through the side and landed almost unharmed in the water below. No one took a picture of this extra ordinary event shocked as they were but it became a famous affair with all sorts of souvenirs as a remembrance. The postcard is a well known early photo shopping product. Card published by Verlag Kratochwil - Wuppertal.

Industrial railway and in this case the transportation of peat. The Heseper Torfbahn | peat railway (600 mm gauge) brought loaded wagons to a transhipment installation on the Westside of the River Ems. A shunting horse is on duty for shifting the cars under a cable crane. This railway operation was closed in 1972. Till the fifties it also transported people free of charge between Groß Hesepe and Meppen.

For everything there’s a beginning; wagon Nº 167 and horse without a name or number in front of the old stock exchange building. The way the first trams entered the city, the rail way, rolling from steel wheels on steel sheets caused less resistance and thus not a burden for a horse, once rolling it rolls. Only the stench of the motors drop; one can't imagine it no longer but in the age of horse and carriage it must have been very unpleasant for the nose. Postcard published by Algemeene Postvereeniging (Union Postale Universelle).
