The horse tramway is still running on 1067 mm gauge, that system closed on September 15th 1907 while the electric trams (standard gauge) caused a stir among the public, the wonders of a new technique. The picture must have been taken around that time. The same spot today is totally unrecognizable. Even the successor of this station building was replaced for a modern shopping mall and on her turn will be modernized include a new station in the years to come. Note the superb track lay-out with a stub end for the horse tramway; so the horses had to be walked around the coach like the reversing of a locomotive at a terminus.

The Central Station fore ground, buses of the regional transport waiting for depart. The single black car should be a taxi. Beneath Utrecht's coat of arms the track of the tram is visible and than it depends in what year this picture was taken if the city tramway still run (closed January 15th 1939). However, the interurban to Zeist (NBM) prolonged her existence till May 2nd 1949.
