From all obscure tramways ever run in Southeast Asia - not that much by the way - this one certainly belongs to it. A tram service on the so called Mae Khlong lines; two separate lines without connection nor the two has with the rest of the railway network. These lines once started as two private railway companies later merged and taken over by the SRT - State Railway of Thailand in the early fifties. On the first miles of the line from Bangkok (Thon Buri) to Mahachai (Samut Sakhon) till Wat Sing (Wat is Thai for temple) a tram operated in between steam trains. The stretch from Khlong San, a station on the bank of the Chao Phraya River, to Wongwian Yai with street running along the Charoen Rat Road was given up in the early sixties. Trains till today servicing the remaining part to Mahachai though on an infrastructure in a most deplorable situation (read: tear to shreds).

Locomotive 651 (Bo-Bo-de Sulzer/Oerlikon/Henchel - 1947) with single trailer belonging to the motorcars series: D3-D8 (Teikoku - 1959) has just left the terminus Klong San on it's way to Mahachai, a street running railway like a tram and even stops to let a passenger board. An official stop or just by demand, life in the city wasn't that hectic as it is today, the same situation would almost unthinkable. In the early sixties this part of the so called Maeklong Lines (1.91 km) was given up.
