To conquer heights always have been a challenge for railway engineers. After a series committed to the funicular another series of what goes up must come down with other techniques. On this picture how they solved what the Germans call a Schiefe Ebene or steil Strecke (slightly incline) between Erkrath and Hochdahl (North Rhine-Westphalia). Two steam locomotives connected by cable and the one going down given extra power.
