First of all an overview; this one looking into the Chiang Mai direction. The good old semaphores were replaced by electric signals but not the rest of the mechanical handling (iron wires and continue-tension devices) instead of moving the signal arm now they activate an electric switch.

The same station name but together with another device, the pole for throwing or taking the token attached to a Rotan hoop. The old token security system is still in use and works as follow: when a train is ready for depart the next station (block) is informed and if the section is free the machine releases a token. This one is put in an leather pocket attached to a hoop and given to the driver as a sign that he’s free to go. No other token could be released before the one running is put in de machine again at the next station or end of the section. When a train is not scheduled to stop, at full speed the hoop is throwed on the pole at the beginning of the platform and the new one picked up at the end, for both one needs a bit experience.
