Beckenham Heavy Haulage, Atkinson Heavy Haulage Ballasted Tractor, named Ark Royal, fleet № 102, reg. № AMH 540H, fitted with a viewline cab; it is seen in Wynn’s Depot at Chasetown, Staffordshire, parked up overnight, in the late 1970’s. It was moving an Ex Pickfords Heavy Haulage 6x4 Atkinson artic unit, fitted with a viewline cab, reg № EMD 518J, fleet No. M6728, from Pickfords Manchester Depot at Kearsley to London. It is being carried on one of Beckenham’s Crane Fruehauf 45/60ton float Trailers fleet № 204; this was the last of this type of trailer manufactured by Cranes of Dereham. The Atkinson unit was purchased in a partly dismantled state for use as spares by Beckenham Heavy Haulage.

Pickfords Scammell Contractor 240 ton Heavy Haulage Tractor, fleet № M4945, reg. № PGO 712E; seen with a pair of 4 line Crane Fruehauf modular bogies № TM870/A and № TM 870/B joined together to give a 8 line bogie; seen near Watford, at the Beehive Lay-by on the A41, on 7th September 1974. The outfit is carrying a Babcock & Wilcox 90 ton steam boiler that has been moved down from Scotland and is parked up for a night run through London to Littlebrook Power Station near Dartford in Kent.
