Short-eared owls are in short supply this year in the areas where I usually photograph them. As those who know me, they are my numero uno favorite owl and probably my favorite bird. The Northern Harrier inhabits the same grasslands as do the SEOs. These birds are seemingly never in short supply and give the photographer something to shoot as he awaits the showing of the SEOs. In this image, a hen Harrier in nice light is beginning her bank turn to right and away from the photographer. View large for best experience.

I hope everyone is doing well and Thanks for stopping by ~!

Figured I would share another shot of the celebrity Mandarin duck that is currently residing in a small Philadelphia creek. Not a glamour shot like the last image I posted of him, but I do like the reflection and the water droplet. Definitely a waterfowl that you do not see every day. I have not taken an image of a bird or animal in at least six months. When I heard about this local Mandarin duck my interest was peaked but candidly I was quite hesitant to photograph it. Obviously not a wild bird and everyone with an iphone from hear to Sunday has photographed it. Today I had sometime this afternoon and decided what the heck, I'll go find it and take some shots. Well, I found the people first which led to the duck. It is clearly now habituated as unfortunately it is being fed bread and likely other not so suitable stuff from the human hand. Interestingly, it is near impossible to get at eye level unless you want to put waders on and go into the creek (I actually thought about doing that as I have waders in my trunk). Any who, I did manage to get fairly close to eye level on this shot. The image is also fairly well processed in LR and PS, but I like the end result. The Philadelphia celebrity duck!

Thanks for stopping by~!

This image was from my time spent with the Louisiana Waterthrush in April. This warbler almost always sets up territory around small streams and creek beds. It can be found searching for food on the water's edge, and likes to hop from rock to rock. A very habitat oriented image, and you can see how the birds coloration blends into the surroundings very nicely. Presumably a bit of camouflage for protection! Please view large for best experience.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of the weekend~!

A strikingly colored neo-tropical wood warbler that migrates to northern North America and Canada each spring to breed. Probably one of my top three favorite warblers. That is saying a lot as there are so man y beautiful species. This image is of a beautiful male in full breeding dress. For best experience, please view large.
