A lukewarm sun was hitting the mighty walls of the Peter and Paul Fortress in Saint Petersburg Russia, which was a good enough reason to lure some members of ‘The Walruses’ swimming club into a little socialising by the river. Don’t be mistaken by the light, it’s bitterly cold out there.
It’s not uncommon to see them break through the ice and dip into the dark waters of a freezing Neva River passing under the Troitskiy Bridge on its way towards the Baltic Sea. By their standards, this is a ‘tropical’ occasion.
It makes no sense to me, but again, Russians are tough folk.

I am slowly getting accustomed to the deceit of Otago’s winter sun. Its golden rays left only an impression on the old farm, leaving nothing palpable behind. It is so cold.
The sky is turmoil. Dark clouds, the atmosphere’s transient villains, are gathering strength for the incoming showdown. The day is in limbo, giving me an uneasy sensation that the smallest of breezes can tip its mood either way.
Still, these open spaces are my home. At least they feel like it.

The peaceful New Zealand rural settlement is bathed by a warm summer sun, complementing the all-around feeling of serenity and uncluttered existence. The epitome of ideal life, condensed to its basic emotional requirements, nicely summed up once by Milorad Pavic, “Noise is easy to make, create silence, if you can.”

Flat, fertile and beautifully textured plains of the Serbian province of Vojvodina were once upon a time, as scientific legend has it, the bottom of a Miocene epoch sea. The domain of open skies and infinite horizons will awe any photographer, particularly those who have issues with artificially imposed limits.
The flatlands are dominated by a pigmy mountain and national park of Fruska Gora, seen here in the background, a place peppered with historic and natural points of interest.
