Alex Ridout is the daughter of guitarist Mark Ridout. She was the BBC Young Jazz Musician winner in 2016 aged 17. Ridout has been a full time member of NYJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra) since 2017 and began studying at the Royal Academy of Music the same year. She was performing with her regular Quintet apart from Felix Ambach from Germany replacing Luca Caruso. They first played together in the Royal Academy of Music's Junior Jazz Band (drawn from those aged 14-18 involved in the Junior Academy). The Quintet also includes fellow NYJO member Miles Mindlin. Freddie Jensen (2014) and Noah Stoneman (2016) were BBC Young Jazz Musician finalists.
