Jazz in the Park begins with a Parade involving a Brass Band and a Second Line. The Original Big 7 Social Aid and Pleasure Club was founded in 1995 in the Saint Bernard Housing Projects located in the 7th Ward. In 2009 it established a Cultural and Heritage Division with the aim of using the arts as a tool of enrichment for youth. While the Club uses some of the better known Brass Bands for events such as its annual Mothers Day Parade, it also organises its own Brass Band.
