Parissa is from Shahsavar (or Tonekābon) by the Caspian Sea in northern Iran, and now lives in Tehran. She performs Classical Persian Music, at this concert arrangements of poems by Rumi. Aged 28 she was banned from performing in public after the Iranian revolution. The blanket ban was later modified to one of women being able to perform to female audiences with various conditions, but she has refused to apply for the required permit. Since 1995 she has been allowed to leave Iran to perform abroad, I saw her in 2002 with the Dastan Ensemble at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
