Born Todd Michael Bridges in Atlanta, Georgia in 1989, Leon Bridges arrived in Texas three years later. He grew up in Crowley, south of Fort Worth. His music is a recreation of 1960s Soul (Sam Cooke is usually cited as the biggest influence). Since attracting the attention of Austin Jenkins and Josh Block of Texas indie band White Denim he was rocketed in a couple of years from open mics in bars to national attention, in the USA and Europe. They recorded his album, play in his backing band and put together the rest of the band for musicians active on the Fort Worth scene.
