My heart really isn't in to posting tonight, it is somewhere else entirely, but as my opportunities to post have been sporadic I figured I would sort of force myself through the exercise. And exercise is good for the heart, right?

Taken way back with my Zero Image 6x9 pinhole on a trip around Lake Crescent. The mad rush to catch the fleeting rainbow was made ironic by the fact that I used my slowest camera. But it all worked out.

And now I am off to teach some photography.

A slice of the big, open spaces that exist in the Palouse, seen from the lower reaches of Steptoe Butte. A splinter group of us stopped here on our way down after a foggy, overcast sunrise. We did not find spectacular colors ripping across the sky, instead we found fields of Balsamroot quietly whispering to one another in the gentle breeze that was stirring the day to life. I think, those type of moments are best photographed with a pinhole, a camera that does little but whisper itself.

I was in the forest today. I needed it quite fiercely. But I wasn't in these woods. This was the Hoh Rain Forest from some time ago. Last year? The year before? I am not sure. The EXIF data would tell me, but honestly it isn't that important. Sometimes I actually appreciate not having all that info around.

The forest I was in today was dark, somewhat quiet, and plenty snowy. It was wonderful to have snow crunching under my boots again. Maybe I can get back up there soon.

I have now posted three photos of this one spot all with different cameras, the first with my Pentax 6x7, the second with my Holga and now this third with my pinhole. Especially when I go on a road trip, I generally carry all of my cameras (which ranges from 5-6). I used to have a lot of trouble balancing all of them, because each one is a different set of eyes, and therefore a different mindset and approach. If I tried to juggle more than two of them, I would get mentally confused it seemed and not shoot any of them as well. But over the years I have settled into a good rhythm and have started have more luck working with more cameras. Part of that has just come from owning the same cameras for several years and getting to know their quirks, strengths and shortcomings. But part of that has also been learning good discipline in refining what I see with my mind to what I photograph with my camera. If I went out with the mindset to shoot hundreds of images, I doubt this multiple camera approach would work so well. But now I take more time, I pick and choose my shots, sometimes I stand in a spot for several minutes just staring before I even pull a camera out of my bag. And sometimes I end up pulling all of my cameras out of the bag because even if the composition is the same, the different cameras ensure that little else is in the final image.
