A new mini-project for me, one of about three dozen I seem to have. So this one I think will go somewhere, but it is likely going to get there slowly. Just poking at the edges of what is considered self-portraiture. I know I am still in ground that has been covered before, but I am looking for the dimmer edges of that, see what I find out there.
This image is meant to be paired with my one from Latourell Falls, as well as any others that happen to come along in the future.

A self-portrait from Latourell Falls, made on Father's day, but that is purely coincidental. ;-) The one fellow sitting up at the bench here had a good time watching me set this up and pull this off I am sure. Anyway, no over-arching statement here, just trying to have more fun with the camera and do things a bit less seriously.
I find that being creative these days comes moderately easy for me. I just take stock of everything I have already done at a particular spot (or have seen done) and go in a different direction. That "simple". But really, in a way... it is that simple. Just do something different every time.

There are ever so many titles I could have tagged along with this image. Instead, I'll let you take it wherever you will.

Don't be afraid to be influenced, inspired even. It is too big a world and life is too short to be able to see it all on your own. I have walked this street I don't know how many times, even at this particular time of day. Yet this day was different because during my lunch break, while eating a sandwich, I browsed through an extensive book of Lee Friedlander's self-portraits. I own one of his self-portrait books already, but this one worked its way through his earliest work until present day. And if you know his self-portraits, particularly his fondness of photographing his shadow, you'll see his influence here. I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.
I often equate photography to language. I mean, it is a language after all. And how do we learn language best except by doing it and experiencing it. It is the same with photography. You want to get better you go out and you make photos and you experience photos, via Internet, books, gallery shows, or what have you. And if you are not familiar with the self-portraiture of Lee Friedlander, why not start there. He'll definitely change how you think of the self-portrait.

Self portrait x3. I don't do many self portraits, so when I do I really have to pack them in.
