On the south shore of Lake Superior. Taken from Mt. Marquette. The two tall smokestacks belong to decommissioned power plants and will come down soon. The photo includes both the upper and lower harbor ore docks, Presque Isle Park (the "almost island" near the top of the photo), and Northern Michigan University's "Superior Dome," an indoor football arena.

I loved the expression on its face. At Peninsula Point in the Hiawatha National Forest. Explored #288 on September 25, 2019.

Thanks to a friend for reminding me of this Emily Dickinson poem.

A narrow Fellow in the Grass
Occasionally rides -
You may have met him? Did you not
His notice instant is -

The Grass divides as with a Comb,
A spotted Shaft is seen,
And then it closes at your Feet
And opens further on -

He likes a Boggy Acre -
A Floor too cool for Corn -
But when a Boy and Barefoot
I more than once at Noon

Have passed I thought a Whip Lash
Unbraiding in the Sun
When stooping to secure it
It wrinkled And was gone -

Several of Nature’s People
I know, and they know me
I feel for them a transport
Of Cordiality

But never met this Fellow
Attended or alone
Without a tighter Breathing
And Zero at the Bone.

At the delightful Bear Park, near Gwinn. A collection of teddy bears, mostly on playground equipment, originally created by George Harvala, in honor of his wife, who before she died had always pointed out a particular branch and said there should be a teddy bear on a swing there. It's been here since at least 2010. The bears "hibernate" in the winter. Explored 302 on August 23, 2019.
