I decided to do this year long project mainly because I'm having a really hard time moving forward and I'm hoping that it'll help me to be able to look at her photos once again and to remember back all the good times that we had.
This was the beginning, taken the first week after she came home. She was born in March 2004, and we pretty much fell in love with her the moment we saw her at the local shelter in June. There were several puppies that day in the pen (including her brother who looked just like her, only with shorter legs), but she was the one that came to us, made eye contact and wanted to be lifted up. We had a record number of snowstorms this month...very unusual for this area. The first snowfall made us cry, as we thought about Misty. Unlike Jasper, Misty really loved snow and she used to run and roll around in it all crazy and she had us laughing silly watching her and chasing after her...good times. So, I dedicate this month's memory to Misty in snow...

When we adopted Misty, we were excited with thoughts of going on all these hikes and runs with her, but we learned early on that she was just not fit for that. Even as a puppy, she had the stamina and endurance level of a senior dog, often collapsing in the middle of a walk like this, needing to take a long break to recover. We took her to the vet and had her tested, but nothing significant was found, so we just accepted that she's destined to lead a more easier pace of life. Over the years, her stamina did improve a little, but we were always cautious to not push her too much. We used to joke that we got a lemon.☺️
Misty would've turned 15 this month. I still go through many moments of doubting myself, whether I've done enough, if there was anything more that could've helped her. Then, I'm reminded of how far she's come, from that fragile puppy to having enjoyed life fully for 14.6 years, and that comforts me...
