This is the main north-south road. It's busy with lots of truck traffic and a narrow shoulder.

Far from ideal cycling. Would not have cycled this road except we had to get back to Christchurch to catch our flight.

This would be an amazing road to cycle if it weren't for all the traffic.

I was seriously scared with logging trucks barreling down and tight tunnels to navigate.

If you've got time, avoid this and take the backroads.
