Ramadan is a 14 year old Libyan boy. Well, he's a man-boy really. His father's death left him the head of his household.
Lots of pressure comes with being head of the household. In Ramadan's case, that also meant deciding whether or not to have lifesaving heart surgery. For years he said 'no!' Until one day he finally said 'yes'.
This image was made during his surgery. As I looked at his feet, I thought about how many stories the skin on his feet told...
And he came through the surgery like a champ :)
