DeSoto Falls
A.A. Miller Dam
DeSoto State Park
Alabama

When we got here there was little water flowing over the left side of the dam but a downpour created a definite change in flow. With umbrella's in hand we watched as the waters rose above the dam and then across the upper falls.

Along the Canyon Rim Drive in Little River Canyon National Preserve in Alabama these sandstone boulders were resting along the ridge line. The colors on these boulders were captivating ranging from a deep red and bright pink to a light green and a warm yellow.

Located 8 miles from The Little River Canyon National Preserve The Little River exposes another beautiful falls, DeSoto Falls. Named after Spanish Explorer Hernando DeSoto, DeSoto Falls are actually two falls an upper and lower one. The lower one which is next to me while shooting this image is 103 ft. tall I was unable to get a good shot of because of a sudden downpour and high winds. The dam in the background is the A.A. Miller dam built in 1925.

Ok, sometimes when you go on a trip you run across some unexpected tourist activities. This one here was ours. After spending an evening in a motel off I-59 in Ft. Payne, Alabama we began our trip through town in route to The Little River Canyon National Preserve to discover that Ft. Payne is the hometown of country music supergroup Alabama and in downtown were these wonderful bronze statues of the band in The Ft. Payne City Park.
