Horn Hollow Cave Falls
Horn Hollow Cave
Carter Caves State Park
Kentucky

I'd been planning on getting out and doing some shooting this past Saturday for some time, so of course it would turn out it would be my least favorite photographic conditions to shoot in. Unfaltered, myself and good friend Jason Haley decided to head out to Carter Caves State Park to photograph an arch that I had never been too and photograph an arch that apparently I walked right past several years ago and didn't notice it. The ride down the AA Highway that morning was awesome, foggy and moody, I was really hoping for more of the same at Carter Caves. Alas, the fog had lifted by the time we reached Maysville and it became quite apparent that there was not a cloud in the sky. When we reached or destination the sun had yet to reach the road leading up to the visitors center and I noticed the creek had a decent flow of water to it. I told Jason to pull over and we'd go check to see if the waterfall had any water on it. "Waterfall?" he asked, "cool!" I hadn't realized it but I had not shown him this waterfall before. As we crossed the creek we could hear the waterfall was flowing nicely. Horn Hollow Cave Falls is one of the more unique waterfalls in the state as it exits out a tunnel and cascades across several grey colored natural steps at the mouth of a cave. I had not planned on shooting a waterfall on this day, but any time I can get one up on nature I'll take it. By the time we were finished, the sun was creeping up on to the waterfall and on our way we went to Raven Bridge.

Fallsville Falls
Fallsville State Wildlife Area
Hillsboro, Ohio

Of all the falls I visited on this last tour this one was my favorite, not only did I get the strongest shots of the day here, but I had the most fun shooting it. There were so many perspectives, and so many swirls. I really need to make it a point to shoot here in the fall, leaves would paint swirls in the little pools. Happy Waterfall Wednesday!

Sunset
Doe Run Lake
South Covington, Ky

5 Image HDR

Sitting on the computer last night I realized that sunset had some serious potential when I looked out the back window and the sun was a massive orange muted ball just above the horizon. So off in the car I hopped shooting up to nearby Doe Run Lake in South Covington, Kentucky. As always I arrived to the show a little late but I enjoy shooting the after light of sunset rather than the sunset itself and there was plenty of light left to get some shots of the beautiful scene that greeted me when I arrived.

McCammon Falls
McCammon Branch
Danield Boone National Forest
Grey Hawk
Jackson County
Kentucky

Over the years now I have been to McCammon Falls several times. The descent down to the base of the falls has become more challenging over the years, either because I’m getting older or the excessive foot traffic and a recent washout. Myself and good friends Adam Thompson - The Serialphotog and Josh Lowe Photography stopped by while we were running around Jackson County, Kentucky last month and conditions couldn’t have been any better. For myself, having visited so many times I feel I have worn out most composition possibilities, however Adam came up with a comp that I couldn’t resist trying out for myself and I’ll share that one a little later. For tonight’s post, it is a more traditional perspective for the falls. I really liked the rock in the foreground in this shot. This will probably be my last time I visit here for a while. Maybe when I see that a long dead hemlock which disrupts the some great views of the falls finally collapses I will return to see it in a different light.
