Sitting on the computer last night I realized that sunset had some serious potential when I looked out the back window and the sun was a massive orange muted ball just above the horizon. So off in the car I hopped shooting up to nearby Doe Run Lake in South Covington, Kentucky. As always I arrived to the show a little late but I enjoy shooting the after light of sunset rather than the sunset itself and there was plenty of light left to get some shots of the beautiful scene that greeted me when I arrived.

AJ Jolly Park

After digging the Impala (a 1968 convertible) out of storage Thursday I got it home and it was acting funny. I originally planned on driving it to work Friday morning but I felt pretty uncomfortable with the way it was acting so I opted not. When I got in from work I figured out the problem and asked my Honey, Lisa if she wanted to go down into the country to find a barn to shoot sunset, she did and off we went. We drove all the way down to Butler, Kentucky seeing lots of barns but none worth stopping. As we approached the rural city it was quite evident that the sunset was going to be a doosy. Knowing we were not far from AJ Jolly Park I decided to shoot up there. It had been 25 years or even longer since I had visited the park, so I had no idea what was in store for us. As the sun set over the horizion things were definately different from my last visit but when we pulled up to the lake it was quite evident where we should shoot and we sat back and watched a beautiful show.

The John Roebling Suspension Bridge

Yesterday I attained a lifelong goal, to ascend the Southern Pier of the Roebling Suspension Bridge and gaze upon the Cincinnati Skyline. I didn't have any concerns about going up, until just before we began our trek up the stairs our guide said, "It gets a little hairy at the top, you have to cross over the railing." You've got to be kidding me, I had no interest crossing a railing with nothing to hold you back 260 ft. above the river. When I got to the top the railing was chest high, but to my relief there was a hole in the railing that you could crawl though to get to the observation deck. Not only was this trip exhilarating, but it is truly the best view of the city and was worth every moment of high anxiety.

Lower Falls
Old Man's Cave

The precise height of this falls is oddly undisclosed, guessing at around 45 ft. the Lower Falls at Old Man's Cave almost a 180 degree viewing area and many angles to which to view it. It is well worth the moderate hike, just remember that if you go be sure to go after rain or during the rainy season, I was here a few years ago during a drought and the was no water at all, anywhere.
The Sphinx reference is because of a large rock formation above the falls that resembles infamous Sphinx in Cairo, Egypt.

While looking for images to edit for a personal photo book I'm working on from my trip to South Dakota, I came across this lovely scene of Sioux Falls. In my opinion, this falls is one of the most unique I've ever seen since most of the falls I see are surrounded in foliage. Myself, my other half Lisa and good friend Bryan Janosick arrived to the falls before sunrise and to my joy a thick cloud cover had moved in overnight. As the sun rose it did it's best to illuminate the clouds overhead creating a warm glow among a sea of blue and blacks as the unusual colors of the rock surrounding the falls make for a unique and beautiful scene.
