Gunnison River
Black Canyon Of The Gunnison National Park
Montrose
Colorado

Up until a few years ago I had never heard of Black Canyon Of The Gunnison National Park in Colorado. A good friend of mine, Bob Turner drove out US 50 on his motorcycle and posted a few phone pics and I was all over it! "What the hell is that?!" This place immediately jumped to close to the top of my bucket list. You know, I knew it was going to be be cool, but holy goodness, I had no idea the awe I would feel here! Overwhelming WOW! The slot canyon is 53 miles long and it has taken the Gunnison River 2 Million Years to erode the layers of rock. 14 miles of the canyon is in the National Park System. Here, where this photo is taken, the river is over 2000 ft below, the highest point of the canyon is 2750 ft. This was my second stop at the Chasm View Overlook, we first stopped by on our way in and were greeted with harsh light. As clouds moved in through the morning I decided to return on our way out and boy, was I glad I did! What a gorgeous scene as the sun peeked through into the canyon floor! Just wow! One has to stand on these cliff walls to really feel the grandeur of this magnificent place. Honestly, photos just don't do it justice.
