Sunset

Mt. Roosevelt
Black Hills National Forest
Deadwood, South Dakota

Sunset at the summit of Mt. Roosevelt was perhaps one of the most spectacular scenes I've seen in some time. Located just a few miles outside Deadwood, South Dakota Lisa and I decided make the short hike to the 5800 ft. summit, little did we realize we were walking into history as in 1919 Seth Bullock, the first sheriff of Deadwood, had a two story observation tower built upon the peak to to honor his good friend, President Theodore Roosevelt. At the top you could see for miles in all directions, it was chilly, about 45 degrees and it began to mist as we waited, the wind blew, then to watch the sun drop below the clouds as the rays of light ran up the mountain and envelope us in a golden glow was a moment that neither her or I will ever forget.
