Ever since I saw the film Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (in the theater) I've always been fascinated by The Devil's Tower. Rising above the surrounding landscape 1,267 feet this unmistakable monolith can be seen for miles away, it is believed that the tower was formed eons ago by liquid rock that had intruded into the existing sedimentary rock beds without reaching the surface. After millions of years the surrounding surface weathered away leaving the tower behind. It is said that over time it will completely erode away.
