A Killdeer performs the classic “My Wing is Broken” act for me. I’ve seen this show before, but it was quite convincing. A still wet half of an eggshell on the gravel meant there was a tiny Killdeer hiding somewhere near, but I did not wish to stress the family and carefully left the area.

I believe there were at least 100 parrots making a huge racket and flying from tree to tree. Here are 15 of them taking a rest in the Australia Section of the Huntington Library & Botanical Gardens. Mostly Yellow-faced and Red-crowned Parrots. Hit "L" for a closer look.

Early on a cool morning at Lake Balboa, I came across this three-some huddled together - presumably to keep warm. No Mom nearby and lying on pavement not too far from water. Initially I thought they were large enough to survive, but later I became concerned about their safety from the local Coyotes. Still feel guilty that I did nothing.
