The fascinating Mezquita is an architectural and historical outlier that blends Islamic and Christian structures and motifs.
The former mosque was once the center of Islam in Western Europe, but after the expulsion of the Moors (1236) a 16th-century church was erected through the middle of the structure. Luckily the beauty of the mosque was not lost on the conquerers and the building was embraced (in a sense!) Guests have the unique opportunity to wander through the engraved double-arches and 850 marble columns (dating from 786) of the stunning mosque, only to run smack-dab into a medieval cathedral!

The controversial canopy covering Plaza de la Encarnacion in Sevilla by German architect Jurgen Mayer H. The gigantic parasol is composed of 5 waffle-patterned, 100-foot-tall structures made of wood and held together by glue! Interesting structure, but it really doesn't compliment the rest of the city.
