I was a bit late getting to the bayou on this particular day but did manage to catch a bit of lingering sunrise. Nothing spectacular, but still a nice day to greet me on the bayou. The water levels were very high from the recent rains and the tides were at peak as well. It turned out to be a rewarding day even though there were not a large number of birds to observe. Sunrise over Armand Bayou near Bay Area Park.

I have two photos to post this evening. Both photos were taken with the same camera and only one lens. It is a bridge camera and am hoping that it can bridge the gap and that I can carry a bit less gear with me when I go on vacation. It’s sort of a Christmas present that came a bit early. I’ve had little time to use it and hope that it works out in the long run. It’s a Sony DSC-RX 10M4. It’s equipped with a 24-600mm lens and has a 1” sensor. Not as sharp a DLSR, but hopefully it will do a nice enough job in most situations. The Nikon will still be headed to the bayou with, but hopefully I can employ the new toy as well. You’ll notice the Great Blue Heron perched in the tree off in the distance and then the close-up of the Great Blue taken with the zoom extended to its maximum. Hopefully, I can put it to good use.

Not my usual offering, but it will give some of you a look at what I use to obtain most of my shots on the bayou. The film clip is not mine and was sent to me by a company that used it in one of their productions. I don’t know how to give them credit for the video.
This is yours’ truly floundering around in the bayou and doing a bit of geeking for their cameras and for a documentary that they made about the bayou. This is my 16-foot-long Mad River Independence canoe that I use for getting around on the bayou. I’ve had the canoe for over 20 years and it’s still in pretty decent condition. I use a Wenonah bent shaft carbon fiber paddle to make my connection with the water.
This was filmed on Horsepen bayou where it straightens out a bit and runs parallel to Middlebrook Dr. If you continue up the bayou you would eventually pass under Middlebrook Drive and paddle behind University of Houston-Clear Lake.
