Even though the bayou has an abundant number of birds to occupy a person’s time, it’s not often that we see a Great Egret in breeding colors and feathers. They get these long flowing feathers and can put on quite the show when they are mating. The lores also change from the yellow/gold colors to this lovely shade of green which sets them apart from their normal colors. This one didn’t stick around and turned around and departed through the branches.

I have to admit that the waters of the bayou are far from clear and often wonder how the gators and fish swim around it. It looks pretty good in this scene along the Great Egret. Photo taken on Horsepen Bayou.

This Great Egret was willing to pose while I observed and photographed it perched in the pile of driftwood that has become lodged in the middle of Horsepen Bayou. I finally backed away and allowed him to enjoy his peace and quiet.

I might add that this is not the norm and that most of these large birds depart when you approach them. It was a bit unusual for this one to stick around.

Hope everyone is doing well and hope that things are sailing along smoothly. Just wanted to give everyone an update as to what is happening. The surgery on the left is scheduled for tomorrow morning and I am hoping and praying that everything goes as smoothly as it did on the right eye. This should take care of all of the imbalance problems between the two eyes and I should be on my way to a different way of life in around 8 days. A bit overexposed, but this scene is about the light-play on the feathers. These Great Egrets don’t usually stick around and submit to me point the camera at them, but I’ll take those exceptions. He was more intent on satisfying his hunger and walked slowly toward me. I like the light reflecting off the water and streaking across his feathers. Photo was taken on Horsepen Bayou.
