And what it was not. This is a repost of a photo that I put up years ago and decided to play with it a bit. It was not one Brown Pelican perched in this old withered tree set in the middle of the bayou but two. I thought that it looked so much better with the feet of the other pelican removed. Since it’s a repost there is no need to comment.

This capture is ancient history and is coming up on antique status, but I was looking for an old alligator shot and came up one of the largest surprises that ever happened to me on the bayou. Was taking a co-worker for a tour of the bayou when something caught my eye in the tree. I tried running numerous animals through my mind that would be up in the tree and this Bobcat was the last thing that I expected to see perched in the branches. I guess it’s not the cat in the hat but a real live catbird. This is in an area with the heaviest concentrations of alligators on the bayou which we refer to as alligator alley. I suspect that he was searching for a crossing point before we interrupted his survey. Since this was taken in November I don’t think that there would be any issue with him swimming across the bayou since the alligators do not feed at this time. Still not a place that I would want to go for a swim. Photo taken on Horsepen Bayou. I might also add that my friend Gary saw him again this year…or at least one of his offspring.

Overheard some people in a restaurant discussing a sunrise that they had witnessed and it brought back memories of this scene that I witnessed on the bayou quite some time ago!! I used the many shots the I took that day in a slideshow presentation but put up very few individual captures of what I consider the best sunrise I ever witnessed!! Since Flickr has included a Showcase section in the Profiles section I will gradually add some photos into that section as time passes!! Since this is my favorite I decided to bore everyone just one more time and upload this one! I figure that it would be a good way for me to start the showcase!! Sunrise was taken on Armand Bayou!

As a follow-up to the post yesterday, I decided to find the adult version of the Little Blue Heron! They are quite stunning all dressed in white, but they are equally impressive all dressed in their steel blue colors and capped off beautifully by those powdery plum colors on the head and neck! I think they are very impressive looking no matter what stage they are in!! Photo taken on Horsepen Bayou!

Falling back on the ol' archives as the bayou has been a distant memory, but I remember this gang quite well!! Some of my winter time visitors on the bayou that allowed me to get fairly close!! American White Pelicans on Horsepen Bayou!
