I guess I should have been a bit more conscious but I pay too much attention to certain parts of the bayou and should have been watching all around! This buck had been lying down and suddenly stood up out of the grass and left in a huge hurry! I have some excellent sharp shots with a blurry buck running off into the distance! Too slow canoe boy!

Seems to be reliving past few months!!
This is poorly timed and must admit that this time I was distracted by an alligator that was about 11 feet long lying on the bank off in the distance when I happened to catch some movement out of the corner of my eye and much to my surprise it was the buck who recently discarded his horns! I say buck because of the multiple injuries that are visible throughout his body! I count at least 4 or 5 injuries that are healing and it would appear to have been quite a tough rut for this particular individual! Unfortunately I didn’t have time to stop the forward moment of the canoe and reached for my camera and began firing away and only managed about 5 shots total before I drifted past his position! He seemed to be reliving the memories and wondering whether it was all worth the effort! White-tailed deer along the banks of Horsepen Bayou!

A look back over the shoulder!!

Captured this deer foraging along the bank of Armand Bayou! It was well aware of my presence and continued to eat until the wind finally blew me in too close! It was great to see a deer as I had not spotted one since the floods back in early summer!
