I instructed this nine foot gator to leave the area or else!!!! It had little regard for my suggestions and carried on with his daily routine! They are all like that and have little regard for whatever drivel comes from the mouth of ol canoe boy! I get noooo respect! I liked the tones in the eye on this shot! Taken on Horsepen Bayou!

I really don’t think that we see eye to eye on too many things to tell the truth, but this 10 footer hung around for multiple passes as the wind shoved my canoe around on this day. The photo was taken on Armand Bayou as opposed to Horsepen Bayou. They are connected, but this is the part of the bayou to the north of Bay Area Park. There are some pretty heavy duty hitters on this bayou as well. This is a full frame capture and the gator most definitely has an evacuation route which I left completely open. I finally paddled off and left him sunning himself on the bank.

Many people are concerned by the alligators on the bayou and feel that it is unsafe to paddle the waters. These seven shot are each a different alligator and were taken in a section of Horsepen Bayou in less than 150 yards. This is the first bend of the bayou where the banks are about 25 to 30 yards apart. There are more alligators lurking in the water and these are the ones that just happened to pop their head up or that were lying on the bank on this particular day. They range from about 5 feet to 10 feet in length. A person has to overcome the fear of paddling straight ahead and directly through where and alligator just submerged. Never a threatening move in this area and so you just paddle wherever you need to go without fear. No teeth marks in the paddle or on the canoe so it’s full speed ahead for canoe boy. The number of alligators in this stretch of the bayou has prompted my friend Gary to call it Alligator Alley, but this place is not to be confused with the real Alligator Alley in Florida. Enjoy the paddle.

Definitely not necessary to comment on all of them. Just wanted to try to illustrate the large number of gators present on the bayou.
