Sometimes these little pint sized Bitterns are quite difficult to capture and stay buried deep in the reeds. These young ladies were not the least bit interested in posing for ol’ canoe boy and tried to maintain their anonymity. Better luck next time.

I was finally able to capture a Least Bittern on the outside of the reeds on Horsepen Bayou and have him stick around long enough for a photo opp. After she realized that she was spotted, she went into her invisibility routine and was trying to mimic a reed blowing in the wind. Maybe I need to tell her that she needs to do something about altering the colors as well. I’ve seen a number of these birds from a distance this year, but this is the first one was cooperative.
