Not my usual offering, but it will give some of you a look at what I use to obtain most of my shots on the bayou. The film clip is not mine and was sent to me by a company that used it in one of their productions. I don’t know how to give them credit for the video.

This is yours’ truly floundering around in the bayou and doing a bit of geeking for their cameras and for a documentary that they made about the bayou. This is my 16-foot-long Mad River Independence canoe that I use for getting around on the bayou. I’ve had the canoe for over 20 years and it’s still in pretty decent condition. I use a Wenonah bent shaft carbon fiber paddle to make my connection with the water.

This was filmed on Horsepen bayou where it straightens out a bit and runs parallel to Middlebrook Dr. If you continue up the bayou you would eventually pass under Middlebrook Drive and paddle behind University of Houston-Clear Lake.

I was going to post some additional captures from the display that we had last Friday. As I explained in the previous post the colors in the evening sky could be see 80 miles west of here and was most impressive. I showed the colors over a 14-minute span and couldn’t believe the intensity and how long lasting the event was. I began shooting just as the sun was disappearing over the horizon and continued shooting for well over 45 minutes. 45 minutes after the sun had disappeared over the horizon there were still colors remaining in the sky, but yours truly never carries a tripod and so when the exposure times reached 1/10 of a second, it was impossible for me to hold the old Sony steady. I walked back to my truck and packed up the camera and drove home still looking at the sky and the marvelous subtle colors that were still on display in the clouds that lit up so beautifully. I have no idea how long they lingered, but as I stated before, the Houston area news stations were talking about the grand display.

I pieced some things together and I hope everyone finds it interesting. I’ll eventually post some additional scenes from it but wanted everyone to see the display that took place. I hope everyone enjoys the slide show and have a great day. Want to thank everyone for stopping by and taking a look.

Since I captured so many different scenes or the sunset on July 5 I decided to make yet another video to show everyone the many different aspects of the evening as the sun settled in for the night. Even though these storms were very large, there was no lightening associated with them and they were pretty much stationary and not threatening the park where I was at. I knew it was a special evening then everything turned that deep orange color and the sun was able to play on the different cloud formations that were around. Hope everyone enjoys the show.

Also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your support and for you many and generous comments. Hope everyone has a wonderful evening and a great day tomorrow.

Thank you so very much.

Only time will tell it this movie actually gets published. This is a series of photos that were take at El. Franco Lee Park and accompany a couple of photos that everyone has already seen. The prompt says that the video is ready to publish and so I’ll attempt to make it happen once again.

This series was taken over a period of about 45 minutes and reflects the changes that occur in the colors and lights in the clouds. I see most people take their shots of the sky at about mid-way point, but for me the best colors in the clouds happen just before it gets dark. Am always fascinated by the transition. Hope this works, and I hope everyone has a super weekend. Peace.

Third time's a charm. WhooHooo!! Success!!

I know it not the Crow's Nest but it sounded better than the observation platform! I tied together a number of different views that skies around El Franco Lee Park offered up as I watched the day come to a close!! Most people run up and take a shot with the sun perched just above the horizon and for me that is only the beginning of a display that can be quite incredible at times!! On this particular evening I had a difficult time trying to figure out which way to point the camera as the sun bathed the clouds in its light!! The only part of the sky that didn't offer up any colors was to the south, but there was plenty of action in every other direction!! Hope you enjoy the show and I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead!!
