*******************************************************************************
I CARE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AND I REPEAT NOTHING ABOUT BEING IN EXPLORE! IT MEANS NOTHING TO ME TO BE PICKED OUT OF A POOL OF THOUSANDS BY AN ALGORITHM AND SO THE AWARDS ARE ABSOUTE POINTLESS EXCEPT TO MAKE FLICKR FEEL AS IF IT HAS DONE SOMETHING GREAT!

FAVS MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING EITHER AND I WOULD DELETE THEM IF i COULD! I WOULD ALSO DELETE THE PHOTO BUT MANY FRIENDS HAVE COMMENTED ON IN AND I HATE TO DELETE THOSE COMMNETS!! IF YOU CAN'T LEAVE A COMMENT THEN LEAVE NOTHING AT ALL!!

I DON'T NEED CONGRATULATIONS FOR BEING PICKED BY A PROGRAM!!!!!

WOW......................I'M NOT IMPRESSED!
*******************************************************************************

And now for the photo

Or in layman's terms what are you looking at!! Revisiting an old friend that I had a number of captures of to fill in the gaps!! This is a young Tri-colored Heron with plumage that is in a bit of a transition!! He's losing the rusty red and white feathers for the slate blue feather of adulthood!! Photo was taken on Armand Bayou!! He was likely wondering just how close I was going to get and whether or not he was going to have to vacate his fishing perch!

A bit late to the party on the bayou but is was worth the effort to be on station when those morning colors flowed over the trees and onto the water on Armand Bayou. I know some like the bow of the canoe in the scene while others don’t so we may post a couple of shots from the bayou on this particular morning. This is in an open area of the bayou where it flows by Bay Area Park which is also the put-in point for all of our bayou adventures. Bay Area Park is to the left in this capture.

One of the Bully Boys of the bayou.

This is my offering for today and I think this is just about as wild as they come. This is one of the bayou behemoths that I encountered on my return trip to the bayou. I was also on the water at the same time the Bayou Ranger was out, but I think they may have departed before all of the big boys came out to gather up a bit of sun later in the day. The day started off overcast and gray because of the remnants of a sand storm blown in from who knows where and a lot of cloud cover. The clouds had dissipated a bit by the time I left and almost all of the big boys were on station to check everything out and claim their place on the banks of Horsepen Bayou…none in Alligator Alley. I’m not one for exaggerating so I’m just going to say that this guy (and they are all guys when they get this large) is 12 feet plus. Likely 13 feet and quite massive. With that being said, he is not the biggest male on the bayou but still very intimidating. Still captured with the RX10 Mk IV with the 1” sensor.

I can assure you that the same can be said for alligators and especially when they are this size. This is not your chumpy little six-foot lizard and is in excess of 12 feet. If you don’t believe me about the length, I’ll give you a tape and let you go measure him.

I don’t like to overestimate the sizes of these beasties and always err toward the smaller size. I can assure you that a 12-foot alligator is more than enough to ruin a person’s day. I’m just thankful that the alligator doesn’t have quite the attitude of a crocodile. If these were crocs, I’d have sold my canoes and given it up LONG ago. Photo taken on Horsepen Bayou.

One extremely healthy mass of mayhem if you decide to wake him.

I had posted a couple of head shots of this monster last year but did not post a photo of him for head to tail. This is one MASSIVE lizard and not one to be trifled with. I’m just going to say that the armor stretches for over 12 feet and that he has not missed many meals during his life on Armand/Horsepen Bayou. This photo was taken on Armand bayou.

I understand from a Flickr friend that this is World Lizard Day and I thought that this lumpy lizard would fit right in.

Just as footnote. These are all full frame shots and hand held and are not cropped.
