White Ibis, Eudocimus albus. Drooling with anticipation? Perched on the observation deck in Wetlands at Riverstone--a tiny, lovely, wholly artificial wildlife and botanical refuge, which was surely mandated by local flood control requirements for construction of new residential and commercial development. The bird and the pond are both perched high above neighboring Steep Bank Creek.
Bears in the woods do it, birds do it, neither can be blamed for human interruption and replacement of natural recycling systems and habitats. Hope you will pause for a moment to ponder humanity's role in our shared ancestor, the biosphere.
Happy Wing Wednesday!

Snowy Egret, Egretta thula, and a rippled reflection in the Wetlands at Riverstone—a small but nicely crafted nature retreat in a residential development. This was an experiment with a do-everything loaner lens from a friend, and with squeezing in a dawn session before the relentless clutter of my current morning schedule.

Myocastor coypus, a giant rat known locally as Nutria, curled up tight like Kipling’s Hedgehog straining to become an Armadillo. Sorry, Nutria, Armadillo already has a place in Texan hearts, leaving no room for invasive species. Wetlands at Riverstone is a lovely small nature park in a residential development, which provides a refuge for Nutria by excluding alligators. Safer for stray dogs, I guess.
