Harbor Seals, Phoca vitulina, watching the whale watchers as we turn toward home. And a few gulls who pretend not to notice, or have gotten used to us. In the Strait of Juan de Fuca—the geotag is generic.

Still viewer, still scene.
Restless water intervenes.
Thus the image moves.

Ripples distort reflections and refractions in a shallow pond, while petals float in the shade.

Bright day gives way
To starry night.

Happy Mono Monday!

Somehow, crossing sketchy bridges in the rain to start a tour has become a thing for us. The last one turned out well, so maybe this will too. Maybe.

Dickcissel, Spiza americana. Came out to the edge of a wetland pond as if to drive me away. I paused to collect a photo before ceding the territory.
The name is a simplification of its call. Uncommon or migratory around these parts. Local birders were happy to see this one.

Taken at the Indiangrass Preserve—one of many properties managed by the Katy Prairie Conservancy—during one of the initial training classes for new Texas Master Naturalists.

May all your omens be joyful!
