Nearly a year after the fact, I've begun processing photos taken during a ten-day visit to southern Vancouver Island. Early October was a great time to be there, as the rainy season had not yet begun, and there was a touch of autumn colour--such as it is on the West Coast.
This heron was quite oblivious to people on the nearby trail, thanks to the safety provided by the Esquimalt Lagoon Migratory Bird Sanctuary.
