A Breguet Type Militaire biplane just before touch down on a military airfield (Camp d'aviatoon militaire) near Dijon.
Clearly can be seen that this machine is powered by the watercooled Canton-Unné wnginw, which defines it as a U1 (80 hp rated) or U2 (120 hp rated).
The landing gear can be seen as different, as there are two nosewheels / frontwheels. There is also a clever tube construction just behind the undercarriage section which makes sure that the tail section will not touch the ground during take-off or landing. Clever engineering.
For accuracy. The spelling of Bréguet on this card is incorrect , it is Breguet.

René Moineau flew in the 1911 military contest with a Breguet biplane fitted with a Canton-Unné 9-cylinder engine. This Breguet biplane version flew in the 1911 contest with number '13'. In the Breguet system for this design it was identified as a Breguet U.2 [U identifies the Canton-Unné engine and '2' identifies the 9-cylinder version].

In October 1911 the French army held a competition for military aeroplanes in Reims. One of the many competitors was the Breguet factory who dispatched several of their biplanes to the competition, most of them fitted with different engines.
The machine seen here is the Breguet G4 - fitted with a Gnôme rotary engine rated at 140 hp. It is just visible on the picture but this was a 14-cylinder rotary engine, configured as two rows of seven cylinders.
This G4 did admirable as it won the second prize. Production types were bought by the French armby.
Special for this machine is that the wings could be folded along the fuselage making it easy for road transport.

During the 1911 French military contest held in 1911 at Reims no less than 6 different Breguet biplanes competed out of a total of 35 (!) different that came up for the qualification tests. All six Breguet machines were fitted with different engines of different power.
The one seen here in flight - piloted by Olivier de Montalent - was powered by a 14-cylinder Gnôme rotary of 140 hp. This made it easily the most powerful Breguet. In the contest this machine had competition number '9'. In the complex Breguet coding for these machines it is a Breguet G.4 (G denotes Gnôme and '4' gives the power of the engine in this case 140 hp). The Breguet biplane did very well in the contest and 6 machines were ordered of the 140 hp Gnôme powered version (G.4).

The Convervatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris had the habit in the early 1900's to place inventions that were brand new at that time in their collection.
This eraly picture shows the Breguet biplane which Henri Brégi flew from Casablanca to Fez (in Algeria) in September 1911.
This Breguet type was one in a long line based on this configuration, a metal fuselage and a special 'double' wing construction, which resulted that this type became known as a double monoplane. Mark the single struts between the wings.
The devlopment over the years of a single configuration was one of the strong characteristics of Louis Breguet, later continuing with the WW1 vintage Bre.XIV / Bre.14 and the Bre.19.
The fuselage side seen in this picture gives away the identification system of Breguet, Type R-U1 No.40, where Type R is the general type and U1 specifies the engine, in this case a Canton-<b>U,/b>nné engine rated at 80 hp. Heavier Canton-Unné engines were idenified as U2, U3. The number '40' gives away that this is the 40th airframe built by the Breguet factory.
The machine is still on display in this beautiful Paris museum, surely deserving a visit when you are in Paris.
