Austro-hungary was desperately short of aircraft right at the start of the war. For this reason at the start of the war some Albatros B.I were bought, which were actually picked up at the Albatros factory at Johannisthal by Austro-hungarian officers and flown to Vienna.
In total between August 1914 and February 1915 a total of 31 Albatros B.I biplanes were bought and delivered. This was a mix of three-bay [dreisteilig] machines and two-bay.
In the picture there is a three-bay Albatros B.I.
Mark the characteristic coloured bands which around the wing tips, which were the national markings of Austro-hungary. Added to that is the Eisernes Kreuz as the machine was delivered with the German standard markings.
In this configuration the pilot was at the back and the observer in front, who was mostly a higher rank officer.
No armament was carried.

In May 1911 five Etrich Taube Type B built in licence by the Austro-hungarian firm Lohner were delivered to the Austro-hungarian army. To distinguish between them a bird name was painted on the fuselage side. This one is named Dohle which means Jackdaw.
This order was built by Lohner because the Etrich firm was too small to build so many machines..
This military Taube was te first design (Type B) with a strengethened undercarriage, in this case four wheels and two skids were fitted. The inverted triangle is the radiator for the Austro-Daimler 4-cylinder engine rated at 60 hp.
In Austro-hungary the military enthusiasm for the Taube quickly diminished as was not the case in Germany. The Etrich Taube was phased out in Austro-hungary during 1912.

Without warning in April 1916 the prototype Fokker M 18 landed at the airfield Aspern. This was one of the sales tactics of Fokker, sending new models wirhout warning.
The effect was probably what Fokker wanted as 18 modified M 18 Fighter-trainers were ordered by the Luftfahrtruppe. This model was identified in A-H as the Fokker B.III. The 18 machines had the numbers 04.11 to 04.27.
The B.III had a fixed part before the typical comma shaped rudder. A MG was fitted on top of the wing which could free-fire without interrupter gear.
Althoiugh Fighter-trainers they were actually flown over the front, specifically the Isonzo Front and above South Tirol. Some of them remained in service till late in the war as trainers.

In German service the Fokker M 18 was identified as the D.I.
