Load test of the Junkers J 1 monoplane prototype in the secret full enclosed experimental part of the Junkers factory. Remarkable is the crowd of people involved with the machine and the load test, which can be seen in this commemorative picture.
For the load test the machine was placed upside down and sand sacks were loaded on the wings. This static test was ordered by the idFlied (Inspektion der Fliegertruppen) before the first flight. On 3 December 1915 the static test was successfully ended. First flight of this all metal monoplane was on 12 December 1915.
Do not confuse the factory registration of the J 1 monoplane with the official idFlieg registration J.I (a later all-metal biplane, which had the Junkers factory registration J 4).
The Junkers firm was enthusiastic about the use of metal for many things as can be seen in this factory, large parts of the construction are metal only.

Another view of the same Rumpler 4B11 showing the fuselage side with the Marine nummer 87 and the text in bold letters 'KIEL', likely of the Navy seaplane station there.

The original of this picture is about post stamp size and apparently torn from an album.
It shows the seldom seen DFW C.I of which 25 were built with the military serials 1500/15 - 1524/15. Although not the whole serial can be seen this is most likely C.1513/15.
The DFW C.I had the original configuration with the pilot at the back and the observer in front. The DFW C.II differed externally only as the seating was reversed.
