The Rainmaker sure was true to its name even a month into the "dry" season. This last day in Costa Rica exemplified our whole trip though. Lots of rain when it was supposed to be dry. I enjoy hiking in the rain but its not the best time to find wildlife and especially not a good time to photograph it.

My Olympus gear held up incredibly well as I expected through any amount of rain except for one exception and that was my FL-900R Flash which stopped working after this rain shower. It had been mounted to my camera for every single hike in the rain previous to this without issue but after this hike when I went out with my son to continue hiking after the rain the flash only showed an error and no batteries were working. I let it dry out for over a month at home but it still doesn't work. It was only about 1 month past the end of its warranty also. I will probably send it in for service anyway. It was a really nice flash.

The guide on my last night hike in the rain gave me the brilliant suggestion of packing an umbrella next time. I can't believe I didn't think of that.

Here are some photos and a short video from the Rainmaker Nature Park in Costa Rica. I don't know why I mostly took landscape photos with my phone on this hike. I could have taken them with my e-m1x that I had out and ready with 12-100 lens so I don't know what I was thinking. Fortunately the photos from the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra aren't too bad.

A cool roadside hawk seen in a farm field on the southern end of the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica on December 26th. My family went horseback riding and to save money and hopefully find some reptiles or amphibians or cool birds I decided to go on a hike in the area instead. It turns out they saw way more cool animals than I did.

This week I have seen my first signs of spring. Two types of flowers are now starting to bloom and today my resident western screech owl was joined by a friend in another nest box. I will have to get out tonight to listen to them calling and get some better photos and videos. I apologize this window I took this video through is very dirty and hazy.
