This Black-tailed Prairie Dog seems well prepared for the coming lean times of winter. We observed him/her continuing to build its fat reserves in Badlands National Park where the species occupies habitat of roughly 4,500 acres. That's a whole lot of Prairie Dogs providing a plentiful food source for such predators as cayotes, foxes, badgers and birds of prey.
