Unsure on the history of when this rectory/convent was abandoned but seems to be a while now.

Raining, thunder and dark when we arrived. Only to find a light on in the hall and a really creepy atmosphere here. On euro tour with Sean and Neil for 3 days of mayhem and a grand total of 8 hours sleep. Taking in some old and new sites and showing them some of what is out there as it was their first time. Also made time to meet up with the SPEXS crew.
There are gruesome rumours about the owner of this house. In the 18th Century the lowlands of Belgium and The Netherlands were confronted with gangs of hoodlums, rapists and satanists who called themselves the "Bokkenrijders". These medievil criminals terrorized the people and left a trail of destruction in these countries. This man was fed up and swore to wipe out all of the "Bokkenrijders", in which he succeeded. Stories go that in the basement of his house he had rings attached to the walls where he locked up the criminals and starved them to death. Those who were not brought to the basement were hung. The hanging was often done in public and therefor the people were very frightened of him.
After the "Bokkenrijders" were no more he turned his aggression to the people around him. This got so worse that he was banned by the community. But even after he left, the terror this man has brought took ages to be forgotten...

A well known and visited location that I finally managed to fit into the latest tour. Although the builders are in and the floor has been removed and a lot of building material is still in there, it is still worth the public access and the fun getting in and out.
The Fair in the Belgian city of Antwerp is located in the Twelve Months Street, a smallside street of the Meir. The current building is a reconstruction from 1872. The original building, "the mother of all fairs, dated from 1531.
This building is not to be confused with the Old Exchange in the Hofstraat.The trade is in a late Brabant Gothic style by Joseph Schadde, after the fire in 1858 the fair in the ashes. Twice in the history of the stock market it burned down in 1583 and in 1858.
