Stepwells, also called kalyani or pushkarani (Kannada: ), bawdi (Hindi: बावड़ी) or baoli (Hindi: बावली), barav (Marathi: बारव), vaav (Gujarati: વાવ) are wells or ponds in which the water may be reached by descending a set of steps. They may be covered and protected and are often of architectural significance. They also may be multi-storied having a bullock which may turn the water wheel ("rehat") to raise the water in the well to the first or second floor. They are most common in western India.

Gray langurs or Hanuman langurs are the most widespread langurs of South Asia. The entire distribution of all gray langur species stretches from the Himalayas in the north to Sri Lanka in the south, and from Bangladesh in the east to Pakistan in the west. Gray langurs can adapt to a variety of habitats. They inhabit arid habitats like deserts, tropical habitats like tropical rainforests and temperate habitats like coniferous forests, deciduous habitats and mountains habitats. They are found at sea level to altitudes up to 4,000 m. They can adapt well to human settlements, and are found in villages, towns and areas with housing or agriculture.
Gray langurs exist in three types of groups:
1. one-male groups, comprising one adult male, several females and offspring;
2. multiple-male groups, comprising males and females of all ages;
3. all-male groups.
