Morning light on the Coast Range, with the nearer waters still in shadow.

Cormorants sitting on the remains of a jetty. Title with apologies to Chaucer. The last word is pronounced: foo-less, and today we would say "fowls."

Using the telephoto reveals that the surface of the water is not flat, as it appears at a distance, but choppy and rough. This is the Queen of Nanimo arriving at Tswassen terminal, passing by a container ship that is probably loading coal for China. My new 18-200mm has an equivalent focal length of 300mm, which is fun to play with. Note the single light on in the upper bridge area of the container ship.

Looking back towards Canada. Tswassen in the foreground, then Vancouver, with its layers of smog, then the North Shore mountains, and finally, the Coast Range at the back. Because it's still early, only the peaks are lit by the rising sun, the rest still in shadow, save for a brief orange glow on the tops of the taller buildings.
