A side-on view of the assembler. I still don't have a very clear idea of how it actually works, but this appears to show that the two horizontal components can slide, thus perhaps adjusting the heights of the components, that is, lining them up, before they are lowered into place. But this is just guesswork on my part.

Part of the new overhead rapid transit line – the Evergreen Line; don't you just love government naming protocols? – being built from the Lougheed Station in Burnaby to the Coquitlam Centre in Coquitlam. This particular curve is being handled by structural steel rather than concrete, as it has to curve, climb and cant in a very short space.

This is also a panorama, assembled from three horizontal shots.

This is the line assembler for the skytrain extension. The yellow steel structure is attached to the support pillars; individual concrete sections of the line (you can see the divisions between them visible as vertical lines) are then suspended from the yellow structure, aligned horizontally, and then pulled together using cables; cemented together; and then dropped into place as a single unit. Once the support pylons are up, it is an incredibly fast and efficient way to put up the line. With the line support in place, the actual tracks can then be laid down. Alas, due to a malfunctioning lens, I was not able yet to capture the early part of the process. Keep watching.

This gives a better sense of how the assembler perches on the pylons, and how, perhaps, the segments of the track support are suspended from it.

Not technically a picture about the Skytrain extension, but taken on the same shoot, because I saw this group as I was shooting the rail-line along North Road. Not sure which school they belong to, nor what their purpose is, out and about during school hours, and in a relatively small group. Perhaps they are from one of the ESL schools, private ones, that are just behind North Road, and which cater mainly to foreign students, sent thither by parents to get a grounding in English for a year, prior to diving back in to their studies in Korea, China, and so on. The lady on the right has nothing to do with them, she was just in a hurry.
