Trainbearers are lopsided hummingbirds: they have short bills (for a hummingbird, anyway), but very long tails. The Black-tailed Trainbearer occurs from Colombia south to Peru. Over much of its range it overlaps with a related species, the Green-tailed Trainbearer (Lesbia nuna), but the Black-tailed is the larger of the two species, with a longer bill. The two species also differ in the color of the upper surface of the tail: the tail feathers of Black-tailed are mostly black, with only narrow glittering bluish green tips, but are mostly green in the smaller species. Unlike the superficially similar sylphs (Aglaiocercus), trainbearers are not hummingbirds of the forest. Instead, the Black-tailed Trainbearer forages in montane scrub, in gardens, and other semiopen habitats. Picture taken at Zuro Loma - Ecuador.

According to e-bird: Medium-sized hummingbird, mostly dark green with obvious buffy underwing and mostly buffy tail. Fairly short, straight bill. Sexes similar. Found in cloud forest from Venezuela to Ecuador, mostly from 1,500–2,400 m. Usually forages in middle to upper levels of trees. Visits feeders, where it aggressively defends its territory against other hummingbirds.

Fairly large flowerpiercer, almost all blue with black mask and red eye. Bill is upturned with a hook at the tip, typical of a flowerpiercer. Sexes alike. Fairly active like a warbler or small tanager, often following a mixed-species flock but sometimes foraging separately. Could be confused with Blue-and-black Tanager but note bill shape and blue (not black) wings. Separated from other flowerpiercers by bright blue color combined with black mask. Quite common and widespread in the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia, usually above 2,000 m. Feeds on fruit, nectar, and insects. ebird.org/species/masflo1

Buff-winged StarfrontletBuff-winged Starfrontlets are appropriately named and have a conspicuous buff-colored patch on their wings. These hummingbirds are rather territorial and often pursue other hummingbirds in high chases, or guard flowers from others from a nearby perch. Buff-winged Starfrontlets inhabit dense cloud forests, elfin forests, and nearby shrubby areas. They are most often seen foraging low around forest borders where they primarily feed on nectar by hovering or briefly clinging to flowers.

The Sword-billed Hummingbird is a charismatic species from Andean South America. It is found from Venezuela and Colombia in the north to Bolivia in the south. The species belongs to a monotypic genus, Ensifera, and is quite different from all other hummingbirds; metallic green and bronzed overall, with a black bill that is slightly upcurved and longer than the body length. This is the only bird species with a bill length that exceeds the body length. When seen perched, the species usually holds its bill quite upright, presumably because of balance issues stemming from this long and relatively heavy structure.
