This is a scan of an old newspaper cutting reporting on her funeral. Sadly, she died before I was born - as did both my grandfathers, thanks to bl**dy wars

My mother was 24 when she had me -- her first of five children. And times were tough then, believe me. But, thankfully, nothing lasts for ever.

A photo of a print of a scan of an old photo. Here, my mother would be 24 and dad 34. How's that for a 'short back & sides' hair-cut, btw? The military mantra of the day was, "What your hat/helmet/cap covers, you can keep ; the rest comes off." (Don't dare ask the date of the original though - it stays a state secret. Heh.)

*(View large.) In those days, "colour" photos were hand tinted. This is matt finish, on a stiff card backing and carrying (on rear of card) pencilled instructions to tinter at (MG studios) as follows: Hair, fair/blonde. Eyes, hazel/brown. Suit, red/maroon.
(Incidentally, I remained a 'blondie' until about 4 years old.)
